The Isoko Development Union (IDU), youth wing worldwide, Delta State has suspended its president, Joel Emeni and the financial secretary, Obiegbedi Efeakpokhrire over allegations of misappropriation of funds, abuse of office, assault, and attempted abduction of an executive member.
Imirror reliably gathered that crisis had rocked the union last month following the alleged assault and attempted abduction of an executive member, identified as Marilyn Ekemejighe, assistant organising secretary by thugs allegedly working under the instructions of the embattled suspended president to the union.
The case has been reported to the Oleh police station, Isoko South Local Government Area of the state for further investigation.
In a statement signed by John Lukumen Odhe, the public relations officer, (PRO), Isoko Development Union Youth Wing Worldwide on behalf of the Union's executive council shortly after its emergency meeting, and obtained by SaharaReporters, noted "The Executive Council of the Isoko Development Union Youth Wing Worldwide hereby informs all members, stakeholders, partners, and the general public of the immediate suspension of the following officers from their positions, effective immediately.
"This decision was taken pending a formal investigation into allegations of financial misconduct misappropriation of funds, abuse of office, assault, and attempted abduction of an executive member. The suspended officers are barred from performing, exercising, or representing themselves in any capacity in their respective offices on behalf of the Association. They are directed to immediately hand over all Association property, documents, financial records, funds, assets, and other materials in their possession to the 1st Vice President, Othuke Idu.
"Othuke Idu, 1st Vice President shall assume office as Acting President pending the conclusion of the investigation. The suspended officers are prohibited from making any official communication or engagement on behalf of the Association with members, oil companies, Local Government Areas, DESOPADEC, vendors, partners, or any other stakeholders regarding Association business.
"The Executive Council urges all members and stakeholders to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding, and to allow the constitutional and investigative processes to run their full course without interference. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and protecting the integrity of the Isoko Development Union Youth Wing Worldwide."
A member of the executive council of the union who preferred to remain anonymous, alleged that the June and July 2026 N6,000,000 largesse paid to the union by the Delta Oil Producing Area Development Commission (DESOPADEC) that could not be accounted were among the issues that led to the suspension of the two officials.
"Apart from the N6,000,000 DESOPADEC largesse that is usually paid to us monthly, that the suspended president and financial secretary could not account for, the suspended president also used hired thugs assaulted Marilyn Ekemejighe, the Assistant Organising Secretary, with and attempt to abduct her at the IDU Secretariat, Oleh with the claim that the DPO requested her presence at the police station which was later confirm to be false.
The suspended president lacked a clear, purposeful leadership, effective coordination and management of the affairs of the youth wing," the source stated.
As at the time of filing this report, all several efforts to reach out to the embattled suspended president for comments were not successful as his mobile number was switched off.
