Jamaican dancehall and gospel reggae veteran Lieutenant Stitchie, born Cleveland “Cleve” Laing, has passed away at the age of 60.

Stitchie died in Kingston on September 28, 2026, just one day before his 61st birthday.He first made his mark in the dancehall scene during the 1980s, with memorable songs such as “Wear Yuh Size” and “Natty Dread.” He later signed with Atlantic Records and took his music to an international audience.

In 1997,his life took a spiritual turn and he transitioned from secular dancehall to gospel reggae, becoming known for his Christian ministry and inspirational music.

From the sound system era to gospel reggae, Lieutenant Stitchie gave Jamaican music more than four decades of his talent, energy and lyrical creativity.
