‎Akwa Ibom: Police raid shrine, arrest five suspected rapists, recover coffins filled with women’s sanitary pads, pictures and other fetish items




‎Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command raided a criminal hideout suspected to be a shrine and arrested five suspects linked to a recent home invasion, armed robbery, and r3pe at a guest house in Abak.


‎The spokesperson of the command, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.


‎According to the PPRO, the arrests followed a discreet investigation prompted by a formal complaint received on June 26, 2025, detailing the attack where armed individuals robbed a man and r3ped his female guest.


‎Following a directive from Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, operatives raided a hideout on July 30, 2025, at 11:10 PM, arresting Richard Edet Udo, Hope Unibong Anitie, Joseph Ibongidi, Christian Joseph Johnny, and Joseph Joseph.


‎The raid uncovered a suspected shrine containing two coffins filled with women’s sanitary pads, photographs, and other fetish items.


‎The PPRO stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend remaining gang members.


‎She added that the command remains committed to ensuring justice and public safety.


‎“Acting on a firm directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, operatives of the Command initiated an investigation. On July 30, 2025, at approximately 11:10 PM, detectives raided the criminals’ hideout. Operatives recovered disturbing items from what appeared to be a shrine, including two coffins filled with women’s sanitary pads, pictures of people, and other fetish items,” the statement partly read.
