Nigerian and Ghanaian police authorities have arrested Victor Benjamin Fajemirokun, the man suspected to have masterminded the killing of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer, Olufunmilayo Lasisi, and the disappearance of her daughter, Sewa. Fajemirokun was repatriated to Nigeria after he was picked up by Ghanaian police, days after he fled the country when the Nigeria Police declared him wanted.
He is believed to have lured Funmilayo and her daughter from their Abeokuta home to Osun State on November 2 under the guise of an outing. Investigators later discovered that he had arranged with a native doctor in Iloko Ijesa to harm the woman for ritual purposes. According to the police, the suspect diverted from their route and, with the help of accomplices, carried out the crime before taking the victim’s remains to the herbalist’s compound.
Police detectives eventually traced the herbalist through digital forensic work, including analysis of phone communication. Upon arrest, the herbalist confessed that Fajemirokun brought the remains of the FRSC officer to him and revealed that Sewa had been taken to his home before Fajemirokun later removed her. The child has not been found
Following the confession, police recovered Funmilayo’s remains near the Iwoye River and transferred them to the Osun State University Teaching Hospital for postmortem and DNA analysis. The victim’s husband, who resides in the United States, has been contacted to assist with the identification process.
Before his arrest, the herbalist was reportedly well-known on TikTok, where he posted ritual-related content under the handle @/abere.ifa13. It was on that platform that he and Fajemirokun allegedly connected and built a relationship that eventually led to the plot.
Some of the accomplices were arrested shortly after the incident, while Fajemirokun fled to Ghana and hid in a friend’s home. On Sunday, November 23, the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Ghana confirmed his arrest.
Regional commander George Ohene-Boadi said police acted after receiving video information from Nigeria and intelligence reports showing Fajemirokun’s hideout. Detectives moved to the residence in Akutia, where he was apprehended.
According to Ohene-Boadi: “The Eastern Sahara Regional Police Command, on receipt of the information that the suspect was hiding in his friend’s house at Akutia, quickly deployed an intelligence-led operation to arrest the suspect in his hideout in the Eastern region. The suspect is currently in police custody as frantic efforts are underway to hand him over to the Nigerian authorities.”
Fajemirokun is currently being processed for transfer to Nigeria to face further investigation alongside the other suspects already in custody.
