The family of late Hon. Matthew Isu have cried out to government and security agencies to urgently come to their rescue as their lives are now in serious threat by some political thugs.
Speaking with this online newspaper correspondent in Sapele, Delta State, Nigeria, one of the brothers of the deceased Mr Charles ISU, stated that their brother was brutally beaten and murdered by some political thugs on the 26th day of August, 2023 when he was trying to secure the release of his kidnapped wife called Mrs Grace ISU of about 76 years old.
He stated further that the family got the information of their brother's death from one of the deceased son from United Kingdom, Hon Michael Isu.
Mr Charles Isu added that it all started when their brother Hon. Matthew Isu declared his intention in the year 2022 to run for the position of local Chairman in Ethiope East local Government Area of Delta State in the upcoming local Government election in 2024, when opponents from the rival party warn him not to contest, but he refused to step down not longer, some political thugs from the opposition party came to the house of Hon. Matthew Isu to attack his family members.
During the attack, it was reported that they were severely beaten and one of his children called Michael Isu who was his personal assistant sustained injury on his leg.
He stated that the intention of the political thugs was to kill the family members of Hon. Matthew Isu and to make sure that none of them remain to contest for that Chairmanship position, but as luck would have it , the Children of Hon Matthew Isu managed to escape.
The deceased brother Mr Charles Isu disclosed that because the opposition party knew that their brother Hon. Matthew Isu has been fighting against corruption and other dangerous crimes in the local Government Area and would not stop until all the bad eggs in the local Government are flushed out, which the opposition party has not been able to do all these years that they have been in power, rather the government of the opposition party is encouraging violent crimes in the local Government and the people of the local Government are craving for positive changes to take place.
Mr Charles Isu who lamented the poor government of the opposition party in the local Government, described his deceased brother Hon. Matthew Isu as been upright and someone who would always fight against other incessant criminal activities in Ethiope East local Government Area of Delta State.
Mr Charles who addressed journalists on the issue, stated that following this attack by political thugs on their brother and his family, his brother Hon Matthew Isu has to make arrangement for his children to leave Nigeria for their safety.
He pointed out that the attack did not end there , rather after the children of their late brother had left the country, his wife of about 76 years old was kidnapped by the same political thugs who attacked him and his family members in the home.
He said that while his brother was trying to secure the release of his kidnapped wife, he was captured and killed.
Mr Charles asserted that their brother's body was missing for some time, but eventually his family members found his body in a forest and they recovered his body and arranged for a burial ceremony for him.
The brother of the deceased further lamented that it is believed that the kidnapping of their brother's wife is political which resulted to the death of their brother Hon Matthew Isu.
