The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Mr. Peter A. Mrakpor (SAN), has condemned the alleged removal and ban of opposition political parties’ billboards in Agbor and Bomadi, Delta State, describing the development as a dangerous sign of political intolerance and a threat to democratic practice.
In a statement issued on Friday, Mrakpor alleged that the actions were aimed at suppressing opposition voices and denying political parties equal opportunities to canvass support ahead of the elections.
He described the alleged development as “childish politics” that has no place in a democratic society, insisting that governance should be anchored on the rule of law, fairness, and respect for divergent political opinions.
According to him, “Democracy flourishes where there is freedom of expression, healthy political competition, and respect for the rights of all political actors. Any attempt to silence the opposition through the removal or prohibition of campaign materials is unacceptable.”
Mrakpor urged the people of Delta State to reject what he described as the “dictatorial tendencies” of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration by voting for a leadership committed to transparency, accountability, and democratic values.
He maintained that the electorate should remain focused on issues affecting the state’s development rather than political actions capable of undermining the integrity of the democratic process.
As of the time of filing this report, the Delta State Government had not publicly responded to the allegations.
