A Niger Delta based human rights activist, Comrade Marvelous Doboro has appealed to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to establish the planned Ogbolubiri Ultra Modern Market in oil-rich Agbodobiri community, Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State.
Agbodobiri is the traditional headquarters of the ancient Ogbolubiri-Mein Kingdom in Delta.
Doboro Marvelous, in a signed statement made available to journalists in Warri on Tuesday emphasized the urgent need for infrastructural development in Agbodobiri, while also urging the State government to prioritize the needs of rural communities with investment potentials
Specifically, he highlighted "the Agbodobiri community's potential for economic growth and improved living standards if farm support infrastructures are in place".
"The establishment of a modern market would not only provide a vital commercial hub for local traders, fishermen and women but also create job opportunities and stimulate the local economy", Doboro Marvelous said.
The statement partly reads, "The people of Agbodobiri have long been overlooked in terms of development.
"The proposed Ogbolubiri Ultra Modern Market was a project conceived in the then Bendel State by Colonel John Ewerekumoh Yeri's administration in 1990 while other market project was ongoing in the Warri province.
"Bendel State was divided into Delta State and Edo State on 27 August 1991 and a lot has changed. It is time for the Delta State Government to recognize the potential of Agbodobiri and invest in its blue economic potentials.
"Agbodobiri is currently facing challenges such as inadequate access to markets, healthcare, and education.
"The establishment of the market could mark a significant turning point for Agbodobiri, paving the way for enhanced economic opportunities".
