Team Nigeria had a big Day 8 at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, adding a gold and a silver to bring the country’s total medal tally to 18: 9 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
Ezekiel Nathaniel won gold in the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of 48.47 seconds, finishing ahead of England’s Jake Minshull (48.99s) and Jamaica’s Assinie Wilson (49.22s), and securing Nigeria’s 9th gold and 2nd athletics gold of the Games.
Nathaniel’s win marked a major improvement from his 6th-place finish at Birmingham 2022, and he controlled the race from the start to claim the biggest international title of his career.
Udodi Onwuzurike also starred running a season’s best of 20.09 seconds from lane 8 to win silver in the men’s 200m behind South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile who won gold in 19.96s.
Jami Schlueter completed his Commonwealth debut with a 7th-place finish in the men’s decathlon, scoring 7,665 points after sitting 4th earlier .
