The Delta State Government’s education support for Oghareki Model Technical College student Ogheneovo Davina highlights the importance of academic excellence.
The Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq., has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for rewarding academic excellence with a ₦50 million education support fund for Miss Ogheneovo Davina, a student of Oghareki Model Technical College.
Oghenesivbe described the gesture as a strong affirmation of the importance of education in building a brighter future, empowering young people and promoting sustainable development in Delta State.
In a statement issued in Asaba on Wednesday, the Bureau DG said the governor’s decision to reward Davina followed her impressive welcome address delivered on behalf of her fellow students, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to encouraging academic excellence, nurturing talents and inspiring young people to pursue their educational aspirations.
He disclosed that the education support fund had been redeemed, describing the development as a practical demonstration of Oborevwori’s commitment to recognising merit and supporting students in their educational pursuits.
According to him, the governor’s recognition of Davina sends a powerful message to students across Delta State that hard work, eloquence, discipline, creativity and dedication to learning are worthy of recognition and reward.
Oghenesivbe urged students to take advantage of educational opportunities provided by the state government, remain focused on their studies and acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the overall development of Delta State.
He maintained that the gesture reinforces the importance of education as an instrument of personal advancement, innovation, economic prosperity and sustainable development, dismissing the misleading notion that education is a scam.
The Bureau DG noted that education remains the foundation for scientific discoveries, technological advancement, professional competence and the development of skilled manpower required to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life.
He said the governor’s support for Davina aligns with the MORE Agenda of his administration, which prioritises Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security, with human capital development serving as a critical component of the state’s development strategy.
Oghenesivbe further noted that the administration’s investment in technical and vocational education demonstrates its determination to equip young people with practical skills, encourage innovation and prepare them for employment, entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
He described the completion and inauguration of the Model Technical College in Oghareki, Ethiope West Local Government Area, as a significant milestone in the state government’s efforts to strengthen technical education.
According to him, the institution is designed to provide students with opportunities to acquire relevant technical knowledge and practical competencies that will support their career development while contributing to Delta State’s industrial and economic growth.
The Bureau DG also highlighted the Oborevwori administration’s continued support for students in tertiary institutions through bursary awards.
He noted that the state government had approved and disbursed bursary payments to eligible Delta State students to ease the financial burden on their families and enable them to concentrate on their studies.
Oghenesivbe added that the administration had continued to invest in school infrastructure, teacher recruitment and professional development to improve the quality of teaching and learning across the state.
He said these initiatives reflect a broader commitment to expanding access to education, improving learning outcomes and creating a more supportive environment for students and educators.
The Bureau DG reaffirmed that the Oborevwori administration would continue to implement policies and initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for young people, strengthening educational institutions and developing a skilled, innovative and productive population.
He stressed that the governor’s gesture to Davina underscores a fundamental principle of governance: investing in education is investing in the future.
According to him, the knowledge and skills acquired by students today will play a crucial role in shaping the prosperity, competitiveness and long-term development of Delta State.
