An elderly man, Idowu Fashola, has recounted his ordeal after being accused of raping a young girl who had lived with his family since she was three years old.
According to him, his wife brought the child into their home to care for her and support her upbringing. The girl remained with the family through her primary years and into secondary school before eventually returning to live with her biological parents.
He stated that years later, the girl’s family arrived at his home with police officers and accused him of rape. The allegation led to his arrest, detention, and a lengthy court process.
Fashola explained that after a full trial, the court found that there was no evidence to support the accusation and ruled that he had no case to answer. He was subsequently discharged and acquitted.
While narrating one of his ordeals during the interview between 8:10-8:53 minute, he said, “On a fateful day, a policeman went from cell to cell to be shooting prisoners. But one of their superiors told him to stop. He then instructed those of us that were still alive to go back to our cells. They came to pack the corpses and that was how I survived. I thank God and all those who made efforts to set me free.
