‎ONE PERSON D!ED AS FAMILY OF SIX FOUND UNCONSCIOUS IN A ROOM IN BENUE



‎The Akaajime community, Mbakpegh, Ipav in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State on today 23rd September, 2025 confronted by tragedy after a family of six was found unconscious in their one room apartment.




‎The incident threw the community into a state of confusion as one was confirmed dead before the remaining five victims were rushed to a nearby private Hospital, at Akaajime to save their lives.


‎In her account of the incidence, a member of the family, Miss Mohivinze Terkura who escaped the tragedy told World Link newspaper that, she returned in the morning by 10am because she was trapped by the rain from where she spent a night with her Aunty in the same Akaajime area but was surprised to discover that her mother and siblings were still in the room with door locked from inside which to her was very unusual.




‎She further explained that, after several attempts for them to open the door failed, she then forced the door open only for her to discovered her mother and others unconscious, where she raised alarm for the attention of neighbors who helped her to conveyed the victims to the nearest hospital ( name withheld). ” But before the victim were taken to hospital, my younger brother of four years, master Sunday Surnen was confirmed dead”. She stated.




‎Explaining further, Miss Terkura said she can’t actually tell what led to the incidence but she noticed unusual harsh smell of chemical in the room, which according to her they don’t have gas cooker in the room neither they used insecticide hence they were constantly using mosquito nets.




‎Confirming the story, one of the victim Aondohemba Joseph (11years) who was lucky to be revived by the doctor, told World Link on his hospital bed that, he wake up this morning as usual to prepare for school activities and couldn’t move himself from the bed, he called their mother but couldn’t answer him only for him to discover that the rest in the room were unconscious, and were helpless till the intervention of his sister, Movihinze who return lately around 10am.


‎He explained further that, their mother mistakenly wake up to cook for them by 2am only for her to discover that it was still midnight and she went back to join them in the room hoping to continue with the cooking at the usual hours of 5am only for the devil to struck them leaving all of them unconscious.


‎Names of the other victims were given as Mrs Mde Joseph (mother) from Kwande, Miss Terkuma Kumawues 12yrs Ipav, Miss Chivirter Avalumun 10, Ipav, Master Teryange Avalumun 7yrs.


‎The Doctor of the hospital told World Link that, he is yet to confirm the actual what led to the incidence hence his major concern was to revive the victims which according him, he has done it to 95%.


‎Our correspondent, who visited the hospital, saw a large number of people, especially relatives and doctors and nurses working assiduously to save the lives of the victims.
