The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old woman, identified as Precious Yohanna, over the alleged killing of her newborn baby in the Jabi area of Abuja.
The incident was reported to the police on October 4, 2026, after the lifeless body of a male infant was discovered in a bush around Jabi.
According to the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, operatives from the Jabi Division responded to the distress call and recovered the infant, who was found with injuries. The baby was taken to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel confirmed that he had died.

Following the discovery, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered an investigation and a manhunt for the person responsible.
Police said, with assistance from members of the community, investigators traced and arrested Yohanna, a native of Riyam in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, who resides in the Daki-Biu/Jabi area of the FCT.
Preliminary investigation, according to the police, revealed that Yohanna had given birth to the baby inside her room at about 4pm on October 3, 2026.
The police alleged that the suspect subsequently inflicted fatal injuries on the newborn with a razor blade before abandoning the body.
Adeh said the suspect allegedly told investigators that she committed the act because of her hatred for the baby’s father.
The FCT Police Command said investigation into the case is ongoing.
CP Sanusi commended residents of the area for their assistance in helping the police identify and apprehend the suspect, while condemning the incident and describing it as a grave violation of the sanctity of human life
