Following his unprofessional handling of a recent case involving social media influencer Adefolarin Ayomiposi, also known as Mandykiss, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the Divisional Police Officer, Enu-Owa Division, to be redeployed immediately.
The action of the Command became necessary when a video appeared online showing the claimed influencer recording and taking photographs of suspects while in police custody at Enu-Owa Division. The incident sparked a rapid internal assessment by the Command and caused great public concern.
According to preliminary information, Mandykiss was not accompanied by any police officers at the time of the alleged arrest. Instead, it has been stated that she received assistance from her online admirers, who gave information that helped identify the suspects – Miss Akinwole Oyindamola and her mother, Mrs. Akinwole Sabitu, are charged with cyberbullying
She was observed filming a video inside her car as she drove the suspects to the station after making the arrest. She turned them over to the police when they arrived, but she also took pictures of them on the station grounds and shared them on social media, which is against both conventional police practice and the legal presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
According to CP Lawal, this series of events showed a glaring failure on the part of the Divisional Police Officer in professional judgment and supervisory responsibilities.
As a result, he ordered the officer’s instant redeployment, stressing that the Command will not tolerate any actions that could erode public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed this position by emphasizing that taking pictures or videos of suspects while they are in custody is against established ethical norms and police procedural guidelines.
