The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the successful rescue of 37 kidnapped victims, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman for Esan West Local Government Area.

During a press briefing in Benin City on Wednesday, May 7, Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, disclosed that the rescue was achieved through a series of coordinated operations across the state.

Highlighting achievements in his first 30 days in office, Agbonika noted that the rescue was carried out without the payment of ransom, crediting strategic intelligence-led efforts for the breakthrough.

He revealed that the PDP chairman, who was abducted on April 15 while working on his farm in the Emu Forest, was freed on May 7 after sustained efforts by the police and allied security agencies.

“These 37 individuals were rescued thanks to joint operations involving the military, Air Force, civil defence corps, local hunters, and vigilante groups,” Agbonika stated.

He added that within his first month as commissioner, the command recovered 25 firearms, including two AK-47 rifles
