Shock and disbelief have gripped residents of a village after a Grade 7 pupil, identified as Yosia Benjamini, reportedly died after being attacked by a chicken while sleeping.
According to the boy’s father, the bizarre incident occurred at their home on Sunday night. He said his 13-year-old son had gone to bed in good health, only to wake up screaming after a chicken allegedly pecked him repeatedly.
“I rushed to his room when I heard him cry out. The chicken was still attacking him, and I quickly chased it away,” the distraught father recounted.
He added that Yosia appeared to calm down after the incident, but moments later, his condition deteriorated rapidly.
“He started complaining of chest pain and difficulty breathing. We rushed him to a nearby health center, but he was pronounced dead on arrival,” he said.
The sudden death left the family and villagers deeply shaken, with some suggesting witchcraft or spiritual forces might have been involved.
“This is not normal. We have lived with chickens all our lives, and none has ever attacked a human being this way,” one villager remarked, urging elders to conduct cleansing rituals to ward off evil spirits.
Local authorities confirmed the strange occurrence, stating that investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of death. Health officers have also taken samples from the chicken for examination.
Meanwhile, grief-stricken villagers have called for greater vigilance, warning that similar unexplained incidents could pose a threat to others in the community.
