Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has raised the alarm over escalating kidnappings in Kogi State, revealing that 28 residents were abducted in a recent attack on Ayegunle Bunu.
Karimi made the remarks on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, during Senate plenary while contributing to a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Senator Abdulfatai Buhari of Oyo North.
The motion addressed the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Describing kidnapping as a “daily occurrence” in several communities across Kogi, the lawmaker said the security situation in his district has worsened and requires urgent federal intervention.
“Mr. President, kidnapping has become a daily occurrence in several communities in Kogi West. Just recently, 28 residents were abducted in Ayegunle Bunu. People can no longer go to their farms or travel freely,” Karimi told the Senate.
He called on security agencies to intensify operations in Kogi West and deploy more personnel to vulnerable communities to curb the trend.
The senator also urged the federal government to address the root causes of insecurity, including poverty and unemployment.
Senators across party lines supported the motion and called for stronger collaboration between federal and state governments to secure schools, highways, and rural areas.
