A bitter conflict has erupted within a well-known Nigerian church, the Living Christ Mission, involving powerful spiritual figures and raising serious legal and constitutional questions.
At the heart of this drama are three individuals; His Lordship, Most Reverend Dr. Daddy Hezekiah (Founder and spiritual leader of the Living Christ Church), Ambassador Dr. Duru Hezekiah, a Former spiritual son and bank accounting officer to Daddy Hezekiah and Onyinye Uwachie, a woman with no known or verifiable source of income, who claims to be owed money by Dr. Duru.
Uwachie recently sent a petition to the lG of Police, accusing Ambassador Dr. Duru Hezekiah of financial misconduct. According to her, he owes her money and she has gone as far as allegedly bringing in officers from the Intelligence Department of the Force Headquarters in Abuja to act on her claims.
But the big question is: Who is Onyinye Uwachie, and why is she making these claims now?
Dr. Duru, through his lawyer, Barrister Ezenwafor, sent an official reply to the Inspector General of Police, firmly denying any financial dealings with Onyinye Uwachie. He insists that all the money issues being talked about have nothing to do with her. Instead, they involve his former mentor, Most Reverend Daddy Hezekiah.
In the letter seen by this media outlet, the lawyer argues that Uwachie’s petition is just part of a bigger plan to intimidate and harass Dr. Duru using government agencies like the police and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
"She has no business demanding money from my client. She is not a party to any financial transaction with him," Barrister Ezenwafor said.
According to Dr. Duru's legal team, this is not the first time Onyinye Uwachie has tried to target their client. For over two years, she has allegedly been acting as a self-appointed “legal representative” for Daddy Hezekiah.
The letter claims she has been running a campaign of blackmail, threats, and character assassination against Dr. Duru and his family, leading to several court cases; some ongoing, others already resolved.
"She has no legal standing. She is only fronting for our client’s enemy,” the lawyer added.
All the money matters mentioned in Uwachie's complaint, according to the lawyer, are directly linked to Victor Onukogu (Daddy Hezekiah)—the man at the center of the feud. Onyinye Uwachie merely acted as a go-between, and at no point did Dr. Duru engage with her independently.
“She has no source of income to support her financial demands. All the funds were from Mr. Onukogu,” the statement clarified.
Barrister Ezenwafor cautioned the police not to be used for personal vendettas. He reminded them of the legal requirement to issue an invitation before any arrest can be made.
"Trying to arrest our client without inviting him first is a clear violation of his human rights,” he warned.
