Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has vowed to reveal the identities of politicians allegedly sponsoring criminal activities in Oyo State if the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area continues.
Igboho made the remarks on Wednesday while hosting newly elected executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), led by Akinteye Babatunde, at his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan.
In a video that has since gained traction online, the activist claimed he had volunteered to assist in flushing out the kidnappers responsible for the attack but was prevented from doing so by the Oyo State Government.
According to him, he never requested financial support from the administration of Governor to help secure the release of the abducted victims.
Igboho alleged that some politicians were providing support to criminal groups operating in the region, insisting that he knew those involved and would publicly identify them if the situation persisted.
He maintained that the kidnappers could be dislodged if security operatives and local security networks were allowed to move against them, stressing that they were not beyond the reach of law enforcement.
The activist further claimed that he was informed that any attempt by him and his supporters to launch a rescue mission could endanger the lives of the abducted children and teachers.
He argued that criminal groups were using insecurity as a tool to destabilise the country and undermine the administration of President .
Igboho also revisited his proposal to deploy his security outfit, known as the Iru Ekun Security Network, to help tackle criminal activities in forests across the South-West. He said that although he received approval from federal authorities to establish the outfit, the Oyo State Government cautioned against operating independently of state security arrangements.
The comments come amid growing concern over the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers during attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15.
The affected schools reportedly include Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School. The incident sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for stronger security measures around educational institutions.
Security agencies have since intensified efforts to track down the perpetrators, with reports indicating that possible escape routes around forest areas bordering Oriire communities and the Old Oyo National Park have been placed under surveillance.
Tension in the state heightened further following reports that one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was killed by his captors.
In response to the worsening security situation, Igboho reiterated his readiness to work within the framework of the executive order introduced by the Oyo State Government to regulate the operations of private security organisations.
He said his primary concern remains the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers and the restoration of security across communities in the South-West.
