Abraka Community in Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State was thrown into chaos on Saturday evening after soldiers pursuing suspected internet fraudsters, popularly known as “yahoo boys,” accidentally killed a pregnant woman.
Eyewitnesses reported that operatives of Operation Delta Sweep had attempted to stop the suspects, who ignored orders and sped away. In the ensuing pursuit, soldiers reportedly fired sporadically at the fleeing suspects. Tragically, one stray bullet struck a woman going about her own business, killing her instantly.
News of the incident sparked immediate outrage. Residents, community indigenes, and students took to the streets in protest, expressing anger over the woman’s death. Attempts to rush her to a hospital were futile, as she had already succumbed to the gunshot on the spot.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement, and the community remains tense as calls for justice grow louder.
