Two Nigerian nationals have been intercepted and arrested by the Indian police in South Delhi for their alleged involvement in a drug peddling syndicate.

According to a report by The Times of India on Friday, the arrest was the result of “specific intelligence” received by the police on April 27, suggesting that a consignment of narcotics was scheduled for delivery in the neighborhood.
Acting on the tip-off, a police team laid an ambush and intercepted the duo at approximately 10:30 p.m. while they were traveling on a scooter. A search of the suspects led to the recovery of a variety of illicit substances.
“During the search, police recovered 102 grams of cocaine — classified as a commercial quantity — along with 13 grams of MDMA and 85 grams of methaqualone, which falls under the intermediate quantity category,” the report quoted police to have said.
Beyond the drug charges, preliminary investigations revealed that both men were living as “illegal aliens” in India. Police confirmed that neither Wisdom, a native of Lagos, nor Chiqozie, who hails from Owerri in Imo State, possessed valid visas at the time of their arrest.
The Indian authorities have registered a case against the duo under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The South Delhi police stated that the suspects are currently being interrogated to unmask their supply network. Investigators are working to trace the source of the narcotics and identify other accomplices, including potential local distributors and other foreign nationals involved in the trade.
