A statement released by the Head of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies at Nnamdi Azikiwe University has announced the death of popular Nollywood actor and lecturer, Mr. Patrick Okoye, widely known as “Energy.”
In the statement signed by Dr. Nkemakonam Aniukwu, the Head of Department, the university community expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate development. According to the statement, Mr. Okoye passed away in the early hours of Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The department described the late actor and lecturer as a vibrant personality, a respected figure in Nollywood, an exceptional teacher, and a mentor who impacted many lives through his contributions to the entertainment industry and academics.
The statement noted that his death came as a painful shock to colleagues, students, friends, and everyone who knew him. It added that his passing has left a huge void that would be difficult to fill.
Dr. Aniukwu prayed for the peaceful repose of the late actor’s soul and asked God to grant strength and comfort to his family, loved ones, and the entire university community during this difficult period.
Mr. Patrick Okoye, popularly known as “Energy,” was widely recognised for his contributions to Nollywood and his dedication to teaching and mentoring young talents in theatre and film studies.
