ABUJA — National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Seriake Dickson, has sparked widespread political tension across opposition camps after openly dissociating himself from both the 'Obidient' and 'Kwankwasiyya' political movements, firmly declaring that his sole allegiance remains with the NDC.
The explosive clarification, delivered during an appearance on Arise TV's Prime Time, comes amid growing debate regarding the boundary between the formal party apparatus and the fiercely loyal support bases of its 2027 presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
"I'm not a member of Kwankwasiyya. I'm not a member of Obidient. I am NDC," Dickson stated emphatically during the broadcast, sending ripples through political circles.
While acknowledging that both the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements operate with constitutional protection and distinct identities, Senator Dickson stressed that their leaders are merely candidates carrying the flag of the NDC for the 2027 presidential election, rather than owners of the party structure.
"Kwankwasiyya has a right to be on its own under the constitution, and same for the Obidient group. Their principals are our candidates—presidential candidate and running-mate," he explained.
Political analysts view Dickson's public dissociation as a strategic move to reinforce party supremacy, preventing autonomous political groups from overshadowing or operating parallel to the party's institutional machinery as 2027 approaches.
Addressing rumors of lingering friction between party executives and candidate support bases, the former Bayelsa State Governor asserted that the NDC has put internal leadership battles behind it and locked in its ticket. He called on all affiliated groups to redirect their energy toward mobilization instead of internal supremacy contests.
"There are no internal battles to fight in the NDC. We have decided candidature. The next stage of the battle, strategically, is to win the election," Dickson asserted.
He further noted that his relationship with both Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso spans several years across different political platforms, dismissing claims of personal animosity while insisting on structural discipline.
"I have held several meetings, and even before now, we used to meet over the years. We have been colleagues, partners, and friends—sometimes in the same camp, in the same party, other times apart, but always meeting," he added.
Concluding his remarks, the NDC National Leader emphasized that the overarching goal for the party is securing power in 2027, urging all Kwankwasiyya, Obidient, and allied grassroots groups to align under the unified banner of the NDC to achieve victory at the polls.
