Woman Arrested for Shooting and Killing Another Woman Who Didn’t Say “Thank You”
22-year-old Keona Zachyua Hampton, has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting 41-year-old Cecilia Simpson multiple times in the parking lot outside a PetSmart in Dallas, Texas.

She reportedly held the door open for her as they were leaving a Five Below store. But when she didn’t thank her, the two got in a verbal altercation. This later led to the fatal shooting.
It was supposed to be a normal afternoon — a quick stop at the Five Below and PetSmart in a Dallas shopping center. But by 1 p.m., 41-year-old Cecilia Simpson was lying in the parking lot, shot multiple times — all because she reportedly asked another woman to say “thank you.”
Witnesses say it started when Cecilia held the door open for a younger woman, 22-year-old Keona Zachyua Hampton. When Hampton didn’t respond, Cecilia allegedly asked her to say thank you. That simple request turned into a heated argument.
Police say Hampton began following Cecilia and her daughter into a nearby PetSmart, escalating the confrontation. Employees stepped in, asking both women to leave the store. But outside, the situation spiraled out of control.
“The shooter was saying, ‘Come outside. Let’s handle this outside. Let’s fight outside,’” a witness — an ER nurse — told reporters. “The mom and daughter were just telling her to go away.”
Out in the parking lot, witnesses say Hampton threw a drink bottle at Cecilia’s car. Cecilia and her daughter tried to get inside and de-escalate — but Hampton wouldn’t stop. The argument turned into a physical fight, and moments later, Hampton pulled out a gun and opened fire.
Cecilia’s daughter watched in horror as her mother — a woman who had done nothing more than ask for common courtesy — collapsed to the ground.
Police were called around 1 p.m. Paramedics rushed Cecilia to Methodist Central Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Hours later, Dallas Police located and arrested Keona Zachyua Hampton.
According to her arrest affidavit, she admitted to detectives that she fought with Cecilia, pulled out her gun, and shot her — claiming she was “just trying to get her away.”
Hampton has been charged with murder and is being held in the Dallas County Jail. No bond has been set.
A mother. A daughter. A moment that should have meant nothing — turned fatal over two words that were never spoken.
