Nollywood veteran Yomi King, widely recognized by his stage name Opebe, has shared a dramatic encounter he once had with fellow actor Yinka Quadri during a film production.
Speaking in an interview on Behind The Fame African A-List, Opebe said the incident was connected to a disagreement between Quadri and the late comic icon Baba Suwe. Out of loyalty, he decided to side with Baba Suwe, but this decision led to unexpected consequences.
The actor revealed that while shooting the movie Eku Meji in Meiran, Lagos, a planned fight sequence took a shocking turn. “Quadri was supposed to pretend to beat me, but he did it for real. He slapped and hit me hard until I cried out, insisting the director stop the scene,” he recalled.
According to Opebe, Quadri later laughed off the incident and mocked him, saying it should serve as a warning never to interfere in other people’s quarrels. What surprised him most, however, was Baba Suwe’s reaction. Instead of coming to his defense, Baba Suwe also laughed, dismissing his complaint.
“I told him, ‘You aren’t fair. I stood with you, and you left me hanging.’ But he said, ‘What’s my business?’” Opebe narrated.
