In an interview with the Lucky Udu Experience show, a soldier stated that during a peacekeeping mission in Maiduguri in 2015 Boko Haram captured him and kept him in captivity for nine years
The soldier said throughout his time in captivity, he suffered severe brutality. He said he is grateful to God for saving his life and allowing him to be alive today.
The soldier also said that it was while he was in captivity that he lost his sight, although he does not know exactly what was done to him that caused it.
In his words: “I’m a soldier, we went for peacekeeping at Maiduguri in 2015. In the course of combating with insurgents we were overpowered and a lot of persons lost their lives but I was captured and I was in their custody for good 9 years.
During this period I suffered so much brutality but I thank God who never allowed them to take my life and today I am alive. It was in their custody that I lost my sight. But I would decline in saying some things because my case is still being handled by the military for now. It came from torture but I don’t actually know what happened, what they did that led to my sight packing up
