The Bayagan Ile community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State has appealed to the police, the state government and other security agencies to intensify efforts to free their monarch, Alhaji Kamilu Salami, the Ojibara of Bayagan Ile, who was abducted ten days ago.
The traditional ruler, who was seized by armed bandits on his farm, is believed to still be held inside a forest.
The community’s spokesperson, Alhaji Rafiu Ayinla Lawal, issued the appeal in a statement released to journalists on Sunday. He said the abduction, which occurred on 29 November, has left residents in fear and distress.
According to him, life in the community has been overshadowed by uncertainty since the monarch was taken away. He added that the lack of communication from security agencies has deepened public anxiety.
He expressed particular worry over what he described as the continued silence of the police. He said the Nigeria Police Force has neither visited the community nor provided any update or public briefing on the incident.
He explained that despite efforts by the Royal Family and the people of Bayagan Ile to assist investigations, there has been no official word from the authorities. He said the situation has increased concern over the safety of the monarch.
He noted that only the Royal Family and the community have so far been involved in efforts to secure the ruler’s release. He said the burden has become too heavy for the community to bear without government support.
He therefore appealed to the Kwara State Government to step in urgently. He said the community cannot handle the situation alone and requires the involvement of the state to complement ongoing rescue efforts.
The statement further urged security agencies and the state government to strengthen operations, provide timely information and take decisive steps to ensure the safe return of the Ojibara.
He said the people remain hopeful that coordinated action will lead to a quick resolution of the crisis.
