Niger Police Conduct Statewide Operation, Arrest 29 Suspects, Recover Weapons and Stolen Property

Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have detained 29 individuals connected to culpable homicide, livestock theft, violent thuggery, and residential burglary during targeted operations across multiple local government areas.

The coordinated effort also resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle, a motorcycle, a locally crafted firearm, dangerous weapons, and various stolen items.

Detectives from the Gwada Division launched an investigation following the August 2026 murder of Bawa Barde (53), the Village Head of Zhilu in Fuka District, who was killed in a machete attack at his home. The investigation led to the arrest of four suspects: Zegi Dogari (48), Danjuma Galadima (50), Bashir Umar (32), and John Doma (35).

Police stated that the attack was caused by disputes over grazing routes and personal issues, including an adultery fine. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna has taken custody of all suspects for prosecution.

On the Bida–Minna road, a surveillance team from the Kpakungu Division intercepted a red Toyota Corolla (Reg. No. AE 889 KGK) transporting a stolen cow. After a high-speed chase near Talba Estate, officers arrested Tukur Ado (25), Musa Ibrahim (42), and Isah Madaki (50). The suspects confessed to stealing the animal from Kateregi in Katcha LGA.

Additionally, targeted raids in Kpakungu, Marikichi, Angwan-Dakoko, Angwan-Kwakwa, and Angwan-Gwari resulted in 21 more arrests for public disturbance and violent assault. Notable suspects Victor Solomon (25) and Osama Saidu Baushe (17) were found with a tactical dagger and a sword.

Authorities also seized quantities of suspected cannabis, cutlasses, and scissors. Acting on intelligence, police recovered a locally made pistol hidden at an active mining site in Dogon-Ruwa village, Bosso LGA.

Gawu-Babangida Division officers arrested Jeremiah Dogara (28) at Diko junction while attempting to sell a stolen Bajaj motorcycle from Kateri village in Kaduna State.

In a separate case, officers detained Yusuf Musa (20) after a residential break-in behind the Dana area. Police recovered stolen electronics, a 3kVA generator, solar street lights, and home appliances. Authorities are working to apprehend his accomplice, identified as Danjuma (22).
