Orientation Camp to Become a 6-Week Career & Skills Programme.

President Tinubu’s planned NYSC reforms are set to completely reshape the orientation experience, according to Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman.

The new structure will divide the orientation camp into three phases:

Weeks 1–2: Civic & Leadership Training

• National values
• Civic responsibility
• Leadership development

Weeks 3–4: Career & Financial Skills

• Career mapping
• Financial literacy
• Business planning
• Access to finance

Weeks 5–6: Specialised Professional Training

• Corps members will receive training based on their chosen career path.

Under the new system, graduates will choose from 11 specialised NYSC streams during registration and receive targeted training designed around their education, interests, and Nigeria’s workforce needs.

The new streams include:

💻 Tech and Digital Corps
⚖️ Legal Corps
🏛️ Public Service Corps
🏗️ Infrastructure Corps
🌱 Green Corps
🚀 Enterprise Corps
🎨 Creative Economy Corps
🛡️ Paramilitary and Security Corps

The reform also includes a review of deployment procedures, meaning NYSC postings across states will take security conditions and realities on the ground into greater consideration.

The goal is to move NYSC beyond just “serving a year” and turn it into a structured pathway for skills, employment, and national development.
