A former president general of Irri Community, in Isoko south local government area of Delta State, Mr. Raphael Okelezo, has urged the presidential candidate of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and ex-Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, to drop their ambitions ahead of the 2027 presidential election in the interest of the nation.
Okelezo, a political stakeholder in Delta State and renowned philanthropist, reasoned that the duo should rather support the ambition of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, who is highly favoured by the majority of Nigerians across board to assume the nation's leadership.
He argued that, for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to succeed in removing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from office, Obi should be pushed forward as its presidential candidate because of his popularity across the length and breath of the nation.
According to him: "I am appealing strongly to Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi, they should now drop their presidential ambitions and support Mr. Peter Obi in order to give Nigerians a breath of fresh air.
"I know for sure that when the time comes, the leadership of ADC which is full of people of integrity, will do the needful and allow Obi to stand in as their presidential candidate. The majority of Nigerians are tired of the hardship and need someone like Obi to take the nation out of its current political and economic quagmire," he added.
